You do realize how important it is to track and test your marketing efforts, right?…
Here’s the main reason:
$$$$$$$! (or whatever your currency is)
I’ll give you one quick example of what you can leave on the table, using our ever trusty LaunchProfitsPro:

The problem is that testing and tracking can seem a bit of a chore (it doesn’t help that it even sounds boring before you even start!). And with some solutions it can feel like you need a degree in programming just to set things up. Then there’s the degree in statistical analysis required to setup and measure the tests effectively (especially in "multivariate" testing where you test more than one thing at a time)…
…but it doesn’t have to be this way!
Ultimately testing and tracking just needs to help you do this:
"find out what the visitors to your marketing messages respond to best, in order to help them take the action you want".
The thing is, because this can cover EVERY bit of marketing you do, it can get overwhelming fast. So let’s just start off with the basics and you can take things gradually from there…
The World At Your Website
When you sell your own product online, the customer will generally be travelling through parts of your website to reach an order page and make a purchase.
So – do you know what’s happening when visitors are reaching your website?
You can check your ’server logs’ – but they often aren’t particularly user friendly.
You can use a 3rd party system like google’s Analytics – but again, there’s quite a steep learning curve. Plus, the data you see is up to 24 hours old. On top of that, all the data for your sites is completely visible to Google-eyes (you didn’t really think it was a free lunch did you?!)
The best (and also the most fun to use) compromise I’ve personally found is Clicky. It’s…
- nice and user-friendly
- let’s you view your visitors in realtime
- has some great advanced features once you know the ropes
- they choose not to spy on your data.
- very inexpensive for what they offer.
Give their free account a whirl and see if it fits.
That’s a referral link by the way – I only promote what I would or do happily use for our own business.
Once you’ve got Clicky set up (which just requires adding a couple lines of text to the bottom of your web pages) you’ll immediately see how cool it is watching traffic arrive and interact with your website.
The great benefit of testing and tracking systems that are easy and fun is that you actually want to use them. And that’s half the battle. Straight after you catch the bug from something fun and simple like Clicky (which just requires adding 2 lines of text to the bottom of your web pages), then it’s time to move on to stage 2…
